The New York Jets traded Mecole Hardman Jr to Kansas City on Wednesday. The Chiefs traded its 2025 sixth-round draft pick to the Jets for a 2025 seventh-round pick and Hardman. Also, the Chiefs think Hardman is the answer to their dismay wide receiver play this year. The Chiefs’ WR leader in catches, yards, and receptions is rookie Rashee Rice.

According to football news reports, the Chiefs had hoped for more from veteran wideouts Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore. The trio has had 35 receptions for 353 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chiefs selected Hardman in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a first-year player, he averaged 20.7 yards per grab and scored seven touchdowns (one of which came on a kickoff return).

Hardman claimed the Jets’ offensive woes began when their quarterback suffered an Achilles tendon tear in week one. As time passed, it became apparent that New York was over him.
