Bolton: A gambling-addicted man, James Hall, 49, has stolen $8.1 million, (£6.7 million) from Vale UK. The director of this store-fitting company, Peter Henerty, describes him as a trustworthy employee, as a brother.

It all started in 2012 with a loan, Hall asking for $304,000 (£250,000) to remodel his house and sell it. And Henry, who trusted him, agreed to lend him the money. But Hall, whose monthly salary was $98,650 (£81,000), kept withdrawing money for four years. For his crime, he was apprehended and sentenced to six years in prison.

Gambling-addicted: The court determined that Hall lost all the money wagered on high-risk markets.

During his lifetime, James Hall was working as a well-paid accountant. But, he took advantage of the trust his boss placed in him, to steal Vale UK. Henry discovered the capital flight in 2015, prior to an audit showing inconsistencies in business accounts.

Henry then confronted Hall, who apologized for betting on the FTSE100 in search of security for his family. What was most shocking was Hall‘s attitude because he was shocked when he was sacked despite the wrongdoing at Value UK.

The judge, Tom Gilbart, reflected saying: “Until you got into this, you were a man of impeccable character, with a history of good work, with a family, and with a good lifestyle…”. Because of his performance, Gilbart ordered him to pay Vale UK $83,796 (£69,000) over the next three months. James Hall was found guilty on the four-count of fraud and will be in prison until 2028.

Ultimately, according to Detective Claire Taylor, the crimes attributed to Hall led to serious consequences for Vale UK, a family business. So, she stated that Hall should reflect on his actions.
