Kampot is the latest haven for Chinese Gambling in CambodiaKampot is a city on the Preaek Tuek Chhu River in southern Cambodia and is considered a cultural jewel.  This is because of its French colonial architecture and its pepper plantations and salt fields.  However, in recent years this charming city has become a haven for Chinese Gambling in Cambodia.

In the past couple of years, the Cambodian government has made it easier for companies to get a gambling license. This has led to a gambling boom in the country with over 80 casino licenses issued in in 2017 and 2018.

In addition, gambling licenses in Cambodia are for both land-based and iGaming operations.  Furthermore, casinos with licenses can operate as many websites as they want as long as they follow the gambling guidelines.

Thus, Cambodia has become an attractive location for gambling in the Asian continent. This has led to an increase in revenue for the Cambodian government thanks to an increase numbers of visitors.

Kampot, Cambodia – The Latest City to enter the Gambling Boom

Kampot is just the latest city in Cambodia to benefit from the gambling boom.  Le Bokor Palace is just the latest luxury hotel and casino to establish itself in Kampot.  Today, it boasts 2 casinos on 18,000 hectares and more casinos will open soon.

Most of the new casinos that are opening all over the country have backing from Chinese investors.  However, many residents are not happy with the changes.  This is because of the higher cost of living for its residents and the environmental damages associated with it.

However, Cambodia heavily relies on Chinese investments because it could never afford to upgrade and modernize on its own. Overall, the changes have been positive because it has led to a stronger economy in all sectors.

Even though China makes up most of the offshore investments, several gambling software operators are also entering the market. In fact, even Korean investors have shown interest in the Cambodian gambling market according to several sports news websites.

One example is the construction of a new port that will open next year in Kampot.  The new port is expecting to bring Chinese tourists and gamblers in mass and hopefully add to the economy.
